How to Play NYT Connections

1

Read and Understand the Words

Look carefully at all 16 words and understand their potential multiple meanings. Consider how these words might group into categories, such as similar concepts, items of the same type, or parts of phrases.

Pay attention to ambiguous words that could belong to multiple categories, as they're often key to solving the puzzle. Don't be misled by seemingly obvious groupings, as the game often includes "decoy groups." A thorough understanding of the words will help you more easily complete the subsequent grouping.
